Holofernes by Judith (2018) is derived from the story of Judith and Holofernes, in which Judith beheads the war general threatening her city. Inspiration is pulled from both the original story and the depictions of the scene throughout art history, most notably from Artemisia Gentileschi’s rendition, Judith Slaying Holofernes c. 1614. This theme has been burning in my mind as I witness minimal consequence towards politicians and celebrities facing major allegations. The head in the handbag represents the conquer of oppression and the stamina to keep fighting for justice.
